Rocky Teams Lead the Way at Carnival

NETBALL: Let's play the carnival here every year was the reaction of Rockhampton Netball Association's Barb Ahmat after the weekend's activities at Jardine Park.

While Ahmat was delighted with the success of Rockhampton teams at the Feeling Good Country Netball Carnival, she was even happier with the way her association handled the organisation of such a massive event.

With 130 teams attending the carnival and each team having an average of 16 personnel travelling to Rockhampton, the event provided a big boost to the local economy.

However, local netball also received a major boost with Rockhampton winning both Division One and Division Four without losing a game in either section.

For the Division One team it was a case of "back-to-back" titles.

"We defended our title, we won it the last time it was played here," Ahmat joked.

Rockhampton One beat Southport Carrara, Metropolitan, Mackay, Mount Isa and runner-up Jimboomba by three or four goals but trounced Caloundra 37-5. …
