Truck Crash Kills Man

A MAN was killed after his tip truck slammed into the back of a semi-trailer amid chaotic morning traffic on the Ipswich Motorway yesterday.

The 51-year-old NSW man - whose name was not released - was pronounced dead after being freed from his mangled cabin and rushed to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

An ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics tried in vain to resuscitate the crash victim on the way to the hospital.

The fatal crash occurred about 7am on the Ipswich-bound lanes at Darra shortly after another accident, in which a truck jack-knifed.

Senior Sergeant Tony Ridge said the semi-trailer was forced to slow down due to traffic banking up. The tip truck then slammed into the semi, its cabin crumpling horrifically as it met the back of the big refrigerated trailer.

"The other driver was uninjured although he was in a great deal of shock," Sgt Ridge said.

Police refused to speculate whether excessive speed could have been a factor, although Sgt Ridge said the tip truck must have been travelling at a significant speed when it hit the larger vehicle. …
