A CLOTHES shop owner has gone on trial after police uncovered a large quantity of cocaine in his office.

Tahir Majid, proprietor of Yakuza on Linthorpe Road, Middlesbrough, is accused of possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply.

He admits possession of the 4.67oz of cocaine which was found in his desk drawer at the boutique but maintains it was for his personal use, Teesside Crown Court heard.

Opening the case prosecutor Jolyon Perks told the court Cleveland Police executed a search warrant at the shop at 10.20am on May 3 last year.

Asked if he had any drugs on the premises the 42-year-old defendant, of Wellesley Road, Middlesbrough, told the drugs officers there was cocaine as well as a set of scales in his desk drawers on the third floor of the property.

Mr Perks told the jury it was a "vast amount of cocaine" divided into smaller bags.

The court also heard that the cocaine in the larger quantities was of a higher purity than the same drug in the smaller packets. …
