BYRON Bay resident, Brian Cadd, is an Australian music legend and he'll be showcasing his song writing know-how in three talks on the song writing process at the upcoming Byron Bay Writers Festival.

For those who don't know Cadd's resume is extensive. He was member of The Groop and Axiom in the '60s, he's had several platinum solo recordings, was recently included in the ARIA Hall of Fame, the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Golden Stave Hall of Fame. He has written songs for the who's who of music including Joe Cocker, Ringo Starr and John Farnham.

Cadd begins his stint at the festival on Thursday in a talk entitled "Short sharp & sweet: telling stories in song, the good, the bad and the truly terrible". It is aimed at junior high school students. Cadd told The Northern Star he would be focusing on the basics of song writing.

"They say they've written songs but they're not actually what we would call a song in modern standards. They've written twelve verses and a bridge at the end," he said. …
