FIRST-SESSION WASHOUT THIRD TEST HELD UP BY MORE RAIN IN BIRMINGHAM

AUSTRALIAN opening batsman Phil Hughes found himself in hot water today after revealing on Twitter he had been dropped before the Australians had officially announced their team.

The first two sessions in the Third Test at Edgbaston were washed out as rain fell allowing the tourists more time to ponder over their selection for the crucial match as teams do not have to be named until the toss is made. It was initially decided by the Australian selectors that Hughes had not scored enough runs to keep his place and that Shane Watson would come in to replace him.

Hughes told Twitter: "Disappointed not to be on the field with the lads today, will be supporting the guys. Thanks for all the support."

The 20-year-old's agent, Neil D'Costa, confirmed that he posted the message on his client's behalf.
