DANIEL Bulloch's kids were hungry and his missus was upset.

So the cash-strapped dad pulled on dark clothes and a black beanie, took a kitchen knife with a 25cm blade and drove to the Richardson Road Foodworks (pictured).

Bulloch hasn't been employed for eight months and financial stress led him to steal last Wednesday.

The 29-year-old father of two was arrested on Friday night after witnesses copied down the registration number of his white Suzuki Swift, which sped away from the crime.

He stole about $700 and used the money to buy amphetamines, cannabis, food and alcohol.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Chris Schick said Bulloch admitted he "did it because the kids were upset and hungry and the missus was upset too".

He was refused bail in Rockhampton Magistrates Court yesterday.

Sergeant Schick said if he was released he would be in the same financial position and at risk of re-offending. …
