It is completely silly that Rutherford is resorting to Peyton's childish antics. You can't convince me that any agency of government couldn't find 2 percent of its budget to cut. And in the case of the sheriff's budget, 2 percent would equal almost $10 million and that goes a long way in fixing the budget woes of the city. I refuse to believe they would cease to function over 2 percent ... or even 3 percent, while they are making the rest of the city cut 5 percent.


When is this nonsense with professional athletes going to end? We had one football player in South Florida who killed someone while driving drunk and spent less than 30 days in jail. Now we have an ex-Jaguar player who's been arrested four or five times for drugs and DUI and lied about it. He gets probation and will serve community service talking to our children - maybe about "how to break the law and get away with it?" This is sending a message to our young athletes that no matter what crimes you commit, you will be exempt from punishment if you make it in professional sports. Sure has changed the definition of "role models!"


Does that writer mean by liberal (something terrible) as "one who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people - their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties - someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad? If that is what they mean by a "liberal," then I'm proud to say "I'm a 'Liberal.' " (John F. Kennedy.) Me too and amen.
