The 2009 Tweed Banana Festival kicks off on August 14 with a fashion parade and official opening by Mayor Joan van Lieshout at the Murwillumbah Civic Centre.

Southern Cross Credit Union is the sponsor and it is being run by the parents of St Josephs Primary School South, Murwillumbah.

A shorter program will feature a select group of fashion houses have been brought together to show you there wonderful upcoming fashions.

Princesses, princes, teen queens and queens will take to the catwalk and - to spice it all up -some lovely young men are being thrown into the mix.

It will be a great night of entertainment as Brett Reynolds will serenade us with our lovely reigning queen, Grace Molloy.

Tickets are on sale at the downstairs office Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 9am to 5pm or upstairs at Tweed Property sales in Murwillumbah Post Office building, Sportsworld or St Josephs. Cost is $10.

AN alternate music festival will be held on August 15 at the Murwillumbah Civic Centre

This is a youth event organised by local youth and featuring a diverse range of local bands.

This is an alcohol- and drug-free, supervised event, showcasing some of the best punk, rock, hardcore, metal and indie bands the coast has to offer.

Tickets on sale at the door.

There will be no pass outs. Bands are: The Lost Cause, The Tripps, Kids On Glue, The Ill-Nation, Division Four, Bonfire and Middle Finger Minority.

Get your entries in for the third annual Video Ezy Short Film Festival which is on August 21 at the Murwillumbah Show Ground Pavilion.

The festival will be based in the Pavilion Theatre, within the Main Pavilion at the showground.

The major prize for the festival will be $200, donated by John and Jean King at Video Ezy Murwillumbah.

All you have to do to enter is simple: Make a short film of 10 mins or under in length, download the entry form, print it out and send the completed entry form to Lachlan Glasby at Lachlan Glasby, Lot 2, 853 Mooball, Road, Pottsville NSW 2489 or drop your entries to Video Ezy.
