D UAL Bathurst 1000 winner Steve Richards was in Gympie extolling the virtues of doing well in school, Ford motorcars and Orrocon steel yesterday.

Richards who drives the Castrol FPR V8 Falcon in Australia's top motor racing series and is the son of motor racing legend Jim Richards, himself a seven times Bathurst winner, spent the day doing work with sponsors Orrcon Steel.

He started off the day with breakfast at Action Ford and from there headed to Budget Steel where he met with owner Glen Smith and, signed autographs for all his Ford racing fans.

"With a short break between events, it is great to have Steve take time out of his schedule to come up to Gympie from his Melbourne base to be our special guest," Smith said.

After more PR work at Action Ford the racing driver paid a visit to Saint Patrick's Primary School.

Richards spent time with the children telling them about the importance of doing well in school even if they only wanted to be a racing car driver and most importantly road safety. …
