ONE year on and in line with the growth of the Isles Industrial Estate, Algy's Cafe is steadily growing, cafe owner Algy Semetas said.

"Isles Industrial Estate is the new commercial and industrial estate of the future. With its vision of expansion and development, the growth benefits everyone."

After a 'hard first year', Algy and his wife Marg, saw the business turn a corner about three or four months ago and they are now confident the next couple of years will see their cafe reach its potential and capacity.

But that's not to say the business isn't doing well. Far from it. The cafe not only gets extremely busy during the lunch hours every working day, but has also built up a substantial catering business, servicing many of the businesses in and around the estate.

"Catering for lunches, snacks and other food for business meetings is an expanding component of our business. We offer sandwiches, fruit platters, cakes and slices and hot finger food. It's a wide variety of food to suit all occasions."

The plot of land opposite Algy's Cafe is due to be developed within the next 12 months, providing a potential customer base of more than 150 employees.

"And they all need food and drinks - breakfast, morning teas, lunch, snacks and of course, coffee," laughed Algy.

"We're the only cafe on the estate offering an alternative to the fast food outlets next to the service station on the Pacific Highway. Many people want something better than that type of food - and we're here to cater to that need."

And what an extensive menu it is. There are separate summer and winter menus, while the blackboard specials are changed regularly.

"Our most popular dishes are fish and chips, steak sandwiches, hamburgers, fish burgers and chicken burgers, while those wanting something a little lighter enjoy our Caesar salads and the sandwich choices available on every type of bread, from focaccia, turkish or wholemeal, grain to white bread. …
