Widgee School Choir Eisteddfod Success

Article excerpt

WIDGEE students wowed the judges at the recent Gympie Eisteddfod.

The school had been practicing for days under the direction of music teacher Desley Deeds. What an outstanding accomplishment for such a small school with Widgee taking first place in the scared singing for choirs under the age of 13 years.

Adding more feathers to their caps was the Marimba group taking second placing in the under 18 community group competition and the school's recorder ensemble gaining third place.

Ekka success

Local couple Lyn and George Cotter paid a worthwhile visit to Brisbane recently with two entries in the prime cattle section of the RNA Show.

They took third place in the 601-720kg class and fourth placing in the 481 to 600kg.

With the large number of contenders taking part in the Ekka it was an excellent result for the Cotters.

Fire warning

If you believe you can burn off safely within the next seven to 10 days you are advised to contact chief fire warden George Cotter for your fire permit.

George can be contacted on 5486 1224. Leave a message if the phone is unattended.

Third was Jeanette with 49, followed by Charlie on 48, Mavis on 47 and Bruce with 45.

Bruce also won the free game.

Last Saturday saw some Widgee members take part in the Suburbs social day held at the Gympie Indoor Bowls Club in Graham Road.

While Widgee players didn't win the top spot, Peter's team was fortunate enough to take second position winning the Out of the Hat draw. …
