CARING Teesside pensioner Margaret Cundall offers sick children an incredible gift - the chance to boost their health.

The 62-year-old brings youngsters from Chernobyl so that they can enjoy the health and social benefits of a stay on Teesside.

The groups, usually made up of more than 20 youngsters, aged nine and 10, spend four weeks staying with host families in the area.

The children, from Belarus, in Russia, which suffered 70% of the fallout from the nuclear disaster in 1986, are here as part of the Chernobyl Children Lifeline (CCLL) scheme.

One of Margaret's friends thought it was about time that all her hard work was recognised and decided to nominate her for a Gazette Community Champion award.

Jean Scarlett-Carr, 44, of Swans Corner, Nunthorpe said: "Margaret has always been a person who helps people. She's a very caring, homely, warm, and kind person. She's just lovely, when I saw it in the paper she came to mind straight away. …
