BAD dental hygiene could increase the risk of serious health problems, according to the UK's leading oral health charity.

Results of the National Dental Survey, conducted by the British Dental Health Foundation, highlights the UK's lack of awareness of the importance of oral health. Research has linked gum disease to potential risk of heart disease, diabetes, strokes, premature births, low birth-weight babies and infertility, according to initial studies.

Yet two-thirds of survey respondents remain unaware of possible links to heart disease, four in five know nothing of the links to strokes or diabetes. A regular visit to the dentist is imperative and there are a wealth of surgeries across the North East who can help you achieve optimum oral health, and well as a great smile.
