A WOMAN was shocked to get a letter from her energy provider threatening court action for access to her home.

Kathleen Gorman, who has a regular direct debit payment to npower, was stunned when she opened what she thought was junk mail.

The letter addressed "To the occupier" contained a letter threatening to apply for a warrant through the magistrates' court to get into her home in Windsor Avenue, Gateshead.

And if she was not in when they called, the inspectors could force their way in.

She said: "I couldn't believe it. I thought it was junk mail because it was addressed to 'the occupier' so usually I would have thrown it in the recycling.

"It was a very scary letter and said they would get a warrant to give them the right to enter my home by force if necessary.

"They said they were coming round the next day so I had to book the day off work. I didn't want to come home and find they had forced their way in and left my home insecure. …
