Three starters were among the seven players who did not participate in Florida's Saturday scrimmage.

Linebacker Brandon Hicks (sprained ankle), safety Major Wright (concussion) and offensive lineman James Wilson (sprained ankle) did not participate.

UF coach Urban Meyer said Hicks, a former Forrest High School standout, will be out five to six days.

Wright and Wilson, a former Nease standout, had been working with the first unit at left guard, were held out.

Also sitting out were linebacker Jonathan Bostic (back muscle), cornerback Jeremy Brown (back), receiver Carl Moore (back) and offensive lineman Matt Patchan (concussion).


The defense dominated during Jacksonville University's first full scrimmage on Saturday at Fletcher High School.

The Dolphins forced nine turnovers, including eight interceptions, had 14 sacks and 11 tackles for a loss or no gain.

"The defense came out ready to play and showed what they are capable of today," JU coach Kerwin Bell said. "Offensively, we're still working some new guys in on the offensive line, and it's taking time for them to jell."

Matt Barnes had two interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. Rolando Fines had two sacks.

On offense, Maurice Manning had 14 carries for 98 yards and a touchdown. Rodney Sumter had four catches for 84 yards.


Clemson coach Dabo Swinney isn't ready to say who his starting quarterback will be.

Swinney wouldn't name a starter after Saturday's scrimmage.

Sophomore Willy Korn and Bartram Trail graduate Kyle Parker are the front-runners. Korn was 5-of-11 passing for 56 yards in the two-hour session. Parker was 5-of-10 passing for 39 yards.

Clemson's defense stood out in the scrimmage, with defensive lineman Da'Quan Bowers and Ricky Sapp combining for five sacks. …
