I'M NOT usually a fence-sitter, but I believe unless I have valuable input with an acceptable alternative and am prepared to commit myself to improving a situation, I have no right to continually voice my objections on the matter.

This is rather difficult to adhere to when others try to push their ideas down my throat, refusing to accept that I don't wish to become involved in what they consider to be of top priority in their own lives.

Neither am I superstitious when it comes to dreams, although I have woken from some of my worst nightmares in a panic.

But recently, I have had a recurring one - one in which a child has been killed and I am passionately declaring: "Protesters have no moral right to endanger children's lives by including them in organised protests!" When I wake up, I'm gasping for air.

Whatever the reason for this disturbing occurrence, I cannot shake off the dread that my nightmare will become a reality. …
