Reserve Your Spot at Historic District Picnic

Article excerpt

Byline: Chuck Hall

It's almost time for the annual Historic District Picnic. As you may remember, I host this event every year at my home in downtown Fernandina Beach. It's a way of showing off the neighborhood to friends in the area. This picnic is a great social gathering and, of course, you're invited.

The picnic starts at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, and will last for about two hours. As always, I'll be burning up some chicken and ribs, slathered in Nettie's Famous BBQ Sauce.

Your entry fee? Just bring a side dish or something to share with others. Also, bring a chair to sit in. There will be live music and we hope to have children's activities. I hope we don't run into a problem with the new noise ordinance ...

This year, we are requiring reservations from all attendees. Please mark your food with your name. Unregistered food won't be served (as per a lawyer's advice). Call me at 261-6846 to make reservations. It's important.

Businesses are asked to donate to the picnic's drawings. If you have a small gift to offer, please call me. It will get your business some good community exposure.

NATURE'S CORK FASHION SHOW

Nature's Cork, a cork and bamboo clothing and products shop, will be hosting a Fashion Show and Environmental Expo from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, in St. Peters Episcopal Church's courtyard in downtown Fernandina Beach. The event will include guest speakers and workshops, and at 6 p.m. there will even be a fashion show with cork and bamboo clothing. (I've gotta see this.)

Do you have a "green" business or product? They're calling for exhibitors for the Environmental Expo, which will be from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Cost for a 10-by-10-foot space is $50 and includes a $10 gift certificate to Nature's Cork downtown retail location, and you get a reusable shopping bag filled with environmental goodies and wonderful "green" information. …
