Developer Counting on Deal; Legal Action Could Be Close to Resolution for Shopping and Entertainment Centre

THE legal stoush over a shopping complex at Walla Street could soon be over, with developers Insight hopeful the centre will be welcoming bargain-hunters by December 2012.

The multi-million dollar entertainment and shopping centre has been in limbo for more than a year, after an appeal lodged in May last year by Hinkler Central Shopping Centre owner Mirvac.

The matter has been back and forth in the Planning and Environment Court more than a dozen times in the past year, but Insight Group director Rod Colwell said a resolution was in sight at last.

"It's down to economic need, and we have proven there is a demand for (the complex)," Mr Colwell said.

He said while the matter could yet go to court, a planned meeting between the two companies' lawyers may nip proceedings in the bud.

"All systems are go at this end, we expect to have a resolution by Christmas," Mr Colwell said.

"We're looking to start work on the site within nine to 12 months."

The block at Walla Street has already been cleared, awaiting construction. …
