Star's sensational four-wicket haul puts Strauss's men on top at The Oval

STUART BROAD took four wickets in the space of balls to revive England's hopes of winning the Ashes this afternoon.

After making only in their first innings, English optimism was beginning to fade when Shane Watson and Simon Katich guided Australia to without loss either side of a minute break for rain.

But Broad -- who has not always bowled well in this series -- found a superb rhythm from the Vauxhall End to remove Watson, Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting, Mike Hussey and Michael Clarke in a sensational spell.

A further wicket, this time for Graeme Swann, left Australia on for five, runs adrift of England.

Watson was trapped in front for , before Ponting -- who was applauded to the wicket by most of a capacity crowd -- got an inside edge to a ball of testing length and could only watch in horror as it cannoned into his stumps. …
