This is the third and final in a series of articles about taking business online, presented in the lead-up to Digital Futures, a one-day intensive seminar at the University of the Sunshine Coast's Innovation Centre on September 4.

IN working to create an effective online presence you first need to identify your goals and objectives, then you need to access the effectiveness of your current business activities, both on and offline.

Are your business activities and marketing achieving your goals and objectives?

What is working and what's not?

These are all basic business planning questions.

Where business people often become confused is in assessing their online activities, because they are unfamiliar with the intricacies of how the online environment works and how you can measure success.

As we said in our first article, using the internet can be seen by those outside the industry as a black art, with its own unique language that only seems to confuse you even more.

However, with a little knowledge you can regain control.

In terms of accessing the effectiveness of your online strategy, there are several key areas to look at.

These include: Can people easily find you online? Is your site well presented and easy to navigate?

Is the site's appearance and functionality consistent across different web browsers?
