THE Cinema and Theatre Historical Society is looking for Australia's lost theatre history.

The (CATHS) group hopes to collect as much information as it can about theatres and cinemas across Australia.

Almost every town had their own picture theatre or had the picture show man travel through in the early days of cinema and CATHS would like to know more about them.

CATHS, a non-profit organisation, was formed in 1989 by a group of people with a passion for cinema and theatre history, from the earliest local hall up to the modern multiplex as well as live theatres.

The society produces a quarterly magazine called CinemaRecord which contains articles on cinema and theatre history and personalities as well as the technical side of the industry.

The society has established an extensive archive, located in Melbourne, of historical records relating to cinemas and theatres.

Donations of photographs and other memorabilia, the loan of photographs for copying, and any other items would be most welcome additions to the society's archives. …
