Masters Games on a Winner; Lismore Event Is Running with the Right Formula

WHILE there are still a couple of weeks to go, the 2009 Lismore Workers Club Masters Games has more competitors this year than in the previous three years.

With around 1800 competitors registered already the games are shaping up to be a major milestone.

At a sponsors' breakfast held yesterday in the Lismore Workers Club, event organiser John Bancroft said when Lismore introduced the games in 2001 they were also being run in Coffs Harbour, Newcastle and Ipswich.

"They have all folded but we are just getting stronger," he said.

He put the success of the Lismore Masters Games down to the social aspect of the games, and also the fact it was only a three-day event in Lismore.

"We made some wise decisions that have held us in good stead. We were a little more conservative than Coffs Harbour and remained doable in the market place," Mr Bancroft said.

Surprisingly the numbers this year are being dominated by women registering to participate. …
