A HOSPITAL doctor from Teesside who downloaded internet images of child torture has been jailed.

Father-of-two James Taylor, 31, from Thornaby, was arrested on duty at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.

He made three attempts to kill himself, his marriage broke up after just months and he will never work as a doctor again, a judge was told.

He had 1,347 obscene images of children on his laptop which included some of the most explicit, degrading and sickening photos with scenes of children as young as eight being tortured, said prosecutor Paul Newcombe.

There were 94 images at the most serious Level 5 and 362 at Level 4. Mr Newcombe said: "The indecent images on his laptop included some of the most explicit, degrading and sickening photographs of children as young as eight in scenes of torture. Taylor told police that he began by downloading nudist photographs which included family groups and he switched to child pornography. He deleted the pictures but he was tracked down by CEOPS, the Child Exploitation Online Protection Service which tracked his credit card payments of 80 dollars to Eastern Bloc suppliers. Cleveland Police's computer expert Ray Savage retrieved the evidence against him. Taylor initially claimed that somebody else must have used his credit card, Teesside Crown Court was told. He was married only three months before his arrest in January, and he was suspended from the hospital and lost access to his stepdaughter aged two and baby girl born in April, said Stephen Rich defending. Taylor was kept for five weeks on a psychiatric ward in The University Hospital. of North Tees, Stockton, after he left suicide notes for his wife, whom he married on November 15 last year, and mother and father.

He made two physical attempts to kill himself and one with drugs. Mr Rich told the judge: "He will almost certainly never be involved in the medical profession again. …
