Grubs Make Clinton Pay for Wasting Opportunities in Preliminary Final

THE young Clinton team has fallen to its more experienced club partner, Grubs, in the preliminary final at Clinton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Clinton coach Adam Van Vegchel felt the 1-0 scoreline had robbed his team of their deserved finals berth.

"We played all over them the whole game," he said.

"They got one chance at the end of the second half and it went in off a deflection."

"Very disappointed, considering the hard work we put into the season."

The Clinton coach admitted his team has struggled to finish goal-scoring opportunities throughout the season, not just on Saturday.

"We hit the post four times in the first half," he said of the game against Grubs.

"Lack of scoring has let us down."

Despite having a team that was considerably younger than the Grubs side, Van Vegchel didn't think lack of experience played a part in the loss.

"It was one of those games where nothing went our way," the coach said.

Grubs coach Mike Searston was glad his squad contained the continued pressure in the first half, enabling them to strike back in the second half. …
