NORTON stretched their sizzling start to the season with a 7-0 awayday hammering of Eccleshill in the FA Vase.

The Ancients, who have now won eight of their opening nine games, cruised to a one-sided victory away at the shell-shocked Bradford-based outfit in the first qualifying round of the minnows' national knockout competition. Norton, in the Northern League top flight for the first time ever this term, went ahead on 19 minutes when striker Richie Storr turned his marker to get into the box and drilled home.

After that it was plain sailing as David Wells raced clear for a second, Sonny Andrews drilled home from the spot after Storr was brought down and then Nathan Mulligan made it four on the stroke of half-time.

The goal rush continued after the break as Wells stabbed home a waist-high cross, Mulligan headed in then Micky Dunwell sealed it as he beat two men and rifled home the seventh.

Elsewhere in the Vase, Stokesley also crushed Bradford opposition as they beat Thackley 5-1.

They seized control with two goals in two minutes midway through the first half as first Lev Yalcin cracked home then immediately after good work by Karl Liley teed up Richard Hore.

Thackley pulled one back before the break but in the second half Stokesley dominated as Paul Campbell, Yalcin and Tom Burke all netted.

Top flight Billingham Synthonia needed a late winner to salvage a 3-2 victory after a late fightback by second division Brandon.

Synners looked to be easing to victory after s Michael Jameson wove through to set up James Magowan to score before the break, then David Yale stabbed in a second on the hour.

But Brandon pulled one back straight away as Bowman put in a looping header then he bundled home the leveller in a crowded box three minutes later to set up a nervous finale.

Synners sealed it on 72 minutes when Magowan headed home from a pinpoint Yale free-kick. …
