Business Hots Up for This Ex-Pom

Article excerpt

Name: Tim Edwards.

Position: Business broker.

With: Savvy Business Sales, Mooloolaba.

I have been in the industry: Just a short while, but my business ownership experience and sales and negotiation skills are good grounding.

And with this office: I had been planning the move to Savvy for a long time.

I came to the Sunshine Coast in: December 2001.

From? London, England.

Because? It was time for a change. We were expecting our son and my wife wanted to be near her family. I'm just grateful that they lived on the Sunshine Coast.

I suppose a lot of us are drawn to successful sporting characters, particularly when we are young. For me it was Jimmy Connors and Nigel Mansell.

What have been the reasons for your success? Obtaining accurate, actionable insights by listening to people and trying to make sure I do the best for them.

What hints can you pass on? Always try to think from the position of the person you are dealing with. More generally, I think perseverance is key to success of most things.

The most exciting part of my life: I imagine being born must have been a blast, but otherwise it was running my internet-related IT company during the dot com period.

I enjoy listening to: Anything that's stored on my iPod.

The last book read/reading: I've just finished Matthew Flinders' own account of his discoveries and mapping of the Tasmanian and Queensland coast, an incredibly courageous endeavour without engines, weather reports, charts or EPIRBs, by a superbly competent and modest man by the standards of today.

My choice of movies to see would be? The Road, adapted from the Cormack McCarthy novel of the same name.

When it comes to television, I love: Anything that doesn't involve reality TV competitions or police-based dramas.

And hate: I would have left the room or turned over long before I got to hate it. …
