Milne Breaks Silence; 'I'm Being Victimised by Media and Police'

GREENS councillor Katie Milne has broken her silence on her opposition to the conducting of last weekend's Repco Rally Australia event in the Tweed and Kyogle shires.

The Tweed councillor who spearheaded a legal battle to stop last weekend's rally believes she is being victimised by the media, police and rally organisers.

"The reporting has been very one-sided, hypocrisy abounds and it has been inciting hatred," Cr Milne said in a statement emailed to the Tweed Daily News yesterday.

"This has to stop," she said. "I am calling on all parties involved to stop adding fuel to the fire and damaging the reputation of the No Rally group and myself."

Cr Milne's response comes after calls from members of the public and the growing concern of Mayor Joan van Lieshout that the rebel councillor must explain her opposition to the rally.

Numerous correspondents in letters to the editor and SMS messages to the Tweed Daily News this week have called for Ms Milne's resignation. …
