Jail Term for Brothers on Stab Charge; Neighbour Attacked with Knife during Suburban Dispute

TWO Lismore brothers were told by a District Court judge they had to look forward and not back.

Judge Roy Ellis told Christopher Gordon, 19, and Roy Gordon, 22, in Lismore District Court yesterday to look to the positives and take control of their lives after jailing them for stabbing a neighbour during a dispute at an Airforce Road townhouse complex.

"It's in the past. It's what you do now... you can sit and whinge or deal with some of the problems," he said.

Finding there had been significant provocation by the victim Anthony Gaunt, who was then stabbed in 'a clearly excessive' response by Roy Gordon in August 2008, Judge Ellis sentenced Roy to five years and three months jail with a non-parole term of two years and six months, making him eligible for release in February 2011.

Although armed with a tomahawk Christopher had not used it in the attack and received a lesser sentence of three years and six months for his supportive role, and ordered to serve a non-parole term of 18 months. …
