TWO Ipswich actors will play starring roles in a Brisbane production of Les Miserables beginning next week.

Brassall resident Lauren Van de Ven will be playing Madam Thenardier with a cast of 40 performers for more than five weeks.

Van de Ven, 29, is a registered nurse by profession but her passion is performing on stage before an audience.

A seasoned amateur performer, she has experience in dramatic and comedic roles and is well-loved for her portrayal of Eliza Doolittle in the Orpheus Chorale's production of My Fair Lady in 2006.

Set in Paris in the early 1880s, a time of extreme political unrest and revolution, Les Miserables follows the lives of people struggling for love, forgiveness, equality and freedom from oppression.

Van de Ven said she was looking forward to the Ignatians Musical Society performance, which begins in Brisbane on September 18.

"It's such a meld of themes, characters and styles - any audience finds at least one aspect of it to their liking, if not all of it. …
