THE Clarence region is within striking distance of returning to the pinnacle of North Coast Football with a raft of local clubs qualifying for grand finals in almost every division.

In a major boost for the sport in the area, only two NCF division grand finals - the third division women and the over-35's cup - will not be contested by local clubs.

Maclean Bobcats (men's first division and women's second division), Yamba Breakers (men's second division) Corindi Red Rock Breakers (women's first division and men's fourth division), Grafton City (men's third division) and the Westlawn Tigers (men's youth league and men's fourth division) will all contest grand finals at Coffs International Stadium over the weekend.

"When you look down the list, the region has teams in seven of the grand finals," Grafton City head coach Dennis Pearce said.

"It is a terrific performance."

Westlawn president Ann Pursey said the number of local clubs chasing glory indicated the growing popularity of the game. …
