MOTORISTS may well have trouble believing the RTA's spin that everything is safe on the Pacific Highway near Shark Creek.

The weekend's road slip has washed away much of the slope stabilisation work the authority has undertaken since the initial slip on Sunday, June 14, and a second slip on June 18.

RTA geotechnical scientists advised The Daily Examiner after the second incident that further slips to the 50-metre section of highway were 'unlikely'.

Those same engineers were probably on-site yesterday investigating the cause of Saturday night's rock fall.

An RTA statement issued yesterday said: "The Pacific Highway is not affected by this rock fall and it remains safe for motorists and traffic."

When we spoke to the RTA yesterday, we questioned what scale of resources had been washed away in the most recent of road slips.

A spokesman, as he prefers to be known, said it was difficult to give out running totals for repair works which were, as yet, incomplete. …
