Article excerpt

The following is a compilation of reports from Beaches area police departments:

- Police have obtained a cell phone that had been used to take surreptitious video of girls, believed to be ages 3-6, in a restroom.

A man who lives in the 500 block of Selva Lakes Circle found the phone in a restaurant, started looking through the multimedia section and found several videos of young girls and called police Sept. 5.

Officers who looked at the phone's images believe the video was taken from a hole in a ceiling of an unknown public restroom. They are trying to track down the phone's owner. The phone service had been disconnected.

- A 32-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were arrested and charged with cultivating marijuana, possession of more than 20 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia when a large grow room was found in a house about 3 p.m. Sept. 4 in the 800 block of Cavalla Road.

Officers went to the home in response to reports of loud screaming and found several pot plants growing in the bedroom with an irrigation and lighting system. Also found was about 5 pounds of harvested marijuana in plastic bags.

- A 28-year-old man was arrested and charged with battery, false imprisonment and child abuse after his wife was attacked and his 9-year-old son was verbally abused about 3:20 a.m. Sept. 3 in the 100 block of Stanley Road.

The man grabbed his wife's face and pushed it during a dispute while he was yelling at his son. When the woman tried to run out of the house, the man blocked her path and kept her in the house. Neighbors called police.

- Police are seeking the public's help in arresting a 20-year-old sex offender who lived near Jacksonville Beach Elementary School for several weeks.

Police have obtained a warrant charging Michael Edwin Paden Jr. with failure to register as a sexual offender. The warrant carries a $100,000 bond.

Paden began living last month at 321 10th St. S., across the street from the school, said Jacksonville Beach Police spokesman Sgt. Thom Bingham. An officer learned Paden was a sex offender and referred the case to a detective, who told Paden that state law required him to have a Florida license that identifies him as a sex offender even though he completed his probation.

Paden never got the license and police got a warrant for his arrest.

There have been no reports of problems in the area, Bingham said. Paden's sex crime occurred out of state in 2005, he said. Paden is about 6-foot-3 and weighs about 165 pounds. Anyone with information about Paden may call the Jacksonville Beach Police Department at 270-1661.

- A man was beaten and robbed of $15 Aug. 28 during a robbery in the 500 Block of First Street North.

- A wallet was stolen Monday during a burglary to an unlocked vehicle in the 200 block of Sixth Avenue South. …
