THE who's who of local business turned out to see the presentation of the 2009 Australian Institute of Management (AIM) Management and Excellence Awards held at The Grand Hotel yesterday.

After an inspiring and thought-provoking introduction from keynote speaker Dawid Falck, the luncheon, under the guidance of Master of Ceremonies Philip Clynes, got down to business in recognising the best in Central Queensland business leaders.

Pierre Viljoen, head of campus, Central Queensland University Gladstone was announced Professional Manager of the Year for his outstanding work in all areas of campus management and the guidance of more than 50 staff.

"I'm chuffed, I'm overwhelmed," he said.

"This is my first Australian award I've won and it's just phenomenal because, to me, it also means acceptance from the community and my co-workers."

David Manttan was awarded the Terry George Memorial Award for 2009.

A former teacher, Mr Manttan was principal at Gladstone Central State School for 10 years before taking on the executive director role with the Education Queensland district office. …
