NOW the footy season is over, Michael Songoro has swapped his football for a pair of pom poms.

And it's not about hanging out with a group of cute cheerleaders.

Michael said cheerleading has been a good experience and a nice change to play a different sport.

His job on the Glenmore Dragons team is to be a trustworthy base.

Michael and 11 other cheerleaders will today compete in the World Cup Cheerleading and Dance Asia-Pacific grand final at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Our local Aussie Cheersquad is also competing with 33 cheerleaders in senior and junior teams.

Glenmore Dragons, made up of students from Glenmore State High School, only formed six months ago.

Cheerleading coach Ashley Fergus couldn't bear the thought of leaving cheerleading behind when he transferred from Cairns so he started his own squad in Rockhampton.

He said cheerleading nowadays is more gymnastics orientated rather than the typical Bring It On movie stereotype. …
