THE HEARTBROKEN parents of a Teesside plumber who died suddenly while on holiday in Turkey have spoken of their tragic loss.

Steven Richmond lost his life while staying in the popular Marmaris resort with parents Ron and Pauline.

Unbeknown to the 31-year-old, he had a ruptured pancreas which led to his blood becoming poisoned.

After just a few days spent in intensive care in a Turkish hospital, he lost his struggle for life. His parents, of Woodford Close, Marske, spoke of the close bond they shared with their much-loved son and the empty space he has left in the lives of all who knew him. "We are all really missing him," mum Pauline said. "We don't think we have fully got our heads around it yet and it just doesn't feel real.

"We got on brilliantly with him and he was always around here. Even when he moved out he would still come round four or five times a week - raiding our fridge! "It was a little bit of comfort that we were there with him and we had those three days together." Steven, who lived in Redcar, had visited the Turkish resort last year and enjoyed it so much that he decided to return this year with his parents. He had arranged to get together with some friends he had met the previous year but just three days into their stay, the family's holiday took a turn for the worse. "It started off as just as an upset stomach," said dad Ron. "Over 24 hours he didn't improve so we called a doctor. He ended up in hospital and on a life support machine. It went on for about four days until eventually the infection won. It would have happened at some time no matter where he was. "Something was obviously wrong that neither he nor we knew about.

" The music-lover had shown no signs of illness. His sudden death, on September 3, has shocked everyone. But his parents are thankful they were able to spend the last few days of their son's life by his side. …
