Bureau Warns It's Working Up to Be a Long, Hot Spring

AIR conditioners throughout Toowoomba had a good workout during this year's hottest August on record.

Even still, residents should be keeping their fingers close to the "on" button to prepare for what is shaping up to be an unusually hot spring.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Brett Harrison said the next few months up to summer should be hotter than normal.

"From what we've seen, there is a greater than 70 per cent chance we'll be seeing above average temperatures up to the end of November," Mr Harrison said.

"The Pacific and Indian Oceans are warmer than usual and the resulting system is causing the hotter weather. We're also leaning towards El Nino as a factor."

Last night 3mm of rain fell in Toowoomba, but after the clouds clear up this morning, the weather should be sunny and warm throughout the rest of the week.

Today is set to be the hottest day of the week, with a minimum to maximum temperature of 16 to 27 predicted. …
