Sellers Pray for Success as Church Put on Market

IPSWICH property investors may have had their prayers answered with a historic church and memorial hall on the market.

The surplus church property includes a 1950s church building on the corner of East and Roderick streets and a heritage listed memorial hall built in 1895.

Ipswich City Uniting Church Minister Peter Woodward said the site had a rich history.

"In 1895 the Sunday School Hall was built and at one point 140 children came to the school," Rev Woodward said.

"In the 1940s the Australian Army took it over and there was a story of a shot being fired into the roof of the hall. When the war was all over it was handed back to the church."

The church was built in 1957 and was known as the Central Memorial Church in memory of those who served in the two World Wars.

Reverend Woodward said the church had acquired the building in 1978, until the congregation was merged with the existing Ellenborough Street Uniting Church in the 1990s due to declining numbers. …
