SOUNDS simple enough but you would be surprised how often players fail to focus on the ball.

In previous articles in Tee Talk I've been critical of the idea of being told to keep your head down, and rightly so, as the net effect of this idea is a head position that is too low resulting in an inadequate shoulder turn on both the backswing and follow-through.

The inability of a player to adequately complete their shoulder turn will result in a loss of power and in most cases a loss of width in the backswing.

This problem alone will cause the arms to hinge at the elbows and wrists far too much with a result of hitting from the top with little or no body rotation back to the ball.

At the set-up position we should be able to focus fully on the back of the ball without forcing our head down. …
