Poole Commits to Play for Kentucky; Providence Swingman Believes Wildcats Are a Good Fit for His Talents

Providence swingman Stacey Poole Jr. announced Thursday afternoon that he will play basketball at the University of Kentucky.

Poole is one of the area's top all-around high school players and considered one of the top 50 prospects in the country. He narrowed his final choices to Kentucky and South Carolina after also considering Clemson, Indiana and Florida.

The 6-foot-5, 190-pound Poole will be a senior at Providence this year after transferring from Jackson, where he led the Tigers to a 22-7 record and a berth in the regional final last season. Before that, Poole played two seasons at Raines.

The opportunity to play for Kentucky coach John Calipari played a key role in Poole's decision. Calipari and UK assistant Orlando Antigua met with Poole and his family at an in-home visit on Sept. 13. Poole took an official recruiting trip to the Lexington campus last weekend.

"I feel I can have a major impact there, that I'll fit in great," Poole told Times-Union partner First Coast News when he announced his decision to attend Kentucky. …
