Generous, Active Clarence among the First to Volunteer

CLARENCE Valley residents are punching above their weight in volunteering circles.

The Clarence Valley Council recently released the preliminary results of a random survey showing five per cent more Valley residents were involved in volunteering than the State average.

The council's survey shows 42 per cent of Valley residents volunteer, compared with the State average for rural and regional areas (37 per cent) and the national average for areas outside capital cities (38 per cent).

The survey also highlighted that:

* most of our volunteers (64 per cent) assisted one organisation, but the remainder may have been involved with up to seven organisations;

* they are most likely to be aged between 35 and 54 years;

* while men are well represented amongst our volunteers, more women volunteered in the past 12 months;

* a little more than half have been volunteering for more than 10 years, and;

* a little more than half volunteer once a week. …
