FORMER Gympie Mayor Mick Venardos (OAM) has retired from Wide Bay Group Training Board of Directors after 17 years of service to the region.

Mick joined the Board of Directors of Wide Bay Group Training in 1992, five and a half years after the organisation was established.

He made a valuable contribution on behalf of the Gympie and Cooloola regions throughout his terms on the board and was also able to provide great insight from a local government perspective during his time as mayor.

Mick Venardos served several terms in local government firstly as an alderman and then Mayor of Gympie City and the then amalgamated Cooloola Shire Council.

He was renowned for his passionate support for the needs of the apprentices and trainees and was a great advocate for the Wide Bay Group Training organisation.

For Mick it was all about "giving someone a go"- the chance to begin a career that might otherwise have been impossible if it wasn't for the local Group Training Company. …
