Help Provide Some Christmas Cheer; Hampers Will Ease Drought for Farmers

DROUGHT-AFFECTED farmers are set to receive some extra Christmas cheer, thanks to Anne Thompson.

The Clunes cattle farmer is collecting food and gifts for NSW farmers as part of her Food for Farmers Appeal.

"We're collecting tins of fruit and vegetables, packet mixes, jams, tea and coffee, biscuits, jellies and custard powder," Mrs Thompson said.

"Every hamper will contain Christmas pudding or cake, and donations of Lions Christmas Cakes are much appreciated."

While local farmers won't be receiving hampers as part of the appeal, Mrs Thompson said she was guided by the advice of the Rural Financial Counsellors to ensure appeal efforts are directed to the neediest farmers across the State.

"We're sitting pretty up here, and now the worst areas still in drought are mainly in southern NSW," she said.

Mrs Thompson said she started the appeal in 1992 by sending hay to farmers to feed livestock, and has continued to support farmers 'on and off' with the appeal when they faced drought. …
