Witnesses Give Different Accounts of Fatal Struggle

A GOLD COAST man charged over the death of his friend, popular Byron Bay businessman Mark Wallace, has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and will stand trial in Lismore District Court.

Cyrus Harry Peri, 28, from Coombabah, was yesterday arraigned on the charge of manslaughter and ordered by Lismore District Court Judge James Black to stand trial on March 29 next year.

Peri, who remains on bail with a $50,000 surety, was represented by defence lawyer Ron Behlau during the brief court appearance, with the Crown prosecutor estimating the length of the trial at six days.

Peri is charged with causing the death of his friend during a struggle at Tweed Heads on January 5, 2008.

In a previous Lismore Local Court hearing on the matter, differing accounts of a struggle involving Peri and Mr Wallace were given.

The struggle took place during a night out with the two men and their girlfriends. …
