THE Champagne and Roses raceday at the Gympie Racecourse this Saturday will hopefully provide some great Spring weather to celebrate Gympie racing in contrast with the a washed-out attempt to stage the Gympie Times-sponsored event earlier this year.

High class racing will result from the good fields engaged for the five events whilst the traditional fashions and frivolity on Champagne and Roses Day ensures another memorable event at the Gympie Racecourse.

A particularly strong field will assemble for the main race, an 850m dash with several trainers selecting this race for horses resuming from spells. The speedy Steven Thomas pair, Lackadosh and Griffin Gate, look suited by the trip whilst smart Nanango galloper Pickastar has top-weight of 59.5 kg. Gympie trainer Kerry Munce looks to have a strong hand on the day with Frenardi and Williamstown likely to prove very hard to beat.

SPINNING World mare Circumnavigate proved a great buy for trainer Barry Gill when she won first up for the stable at Nanango after having been purchased at the Magic Millions sale just a few weeks back.

The $4000 winners cheque at Nanango returned a profit of around 33 per cent on her purchase price. Third dam of Circumnavigate is the Group winning Rego mare, Birthright, a sister to Baguette and Heirloom and a half sister to Cabochon.

THERE will be plenty of interest in the efforts of some Gympie horses in races at Doomben on Saturday. Jedi Starfighter, who did not have much luck when a good fourth last start in Brisbane is in a 2040m Class 6 whilst stablemate, Before the Storm and the Peter Fleming trained, Craiglea Whizard are both in the $71 000 3-yr-old Handicap over 1110m.

Top Brisbane three-year-old filly, Kiss Me Katy, back from a Sydney campaign, is likely to start at a short quote. …
