Skipper Says Eagles Can Triumph Again

SUNSHINE Coast Sea Eagles captain Cameron Joyce believes his troops are fully capable of back-to-back Queensland Cup titles after re-signing with the club this week.

At the tender age of just 26, Joyce told the Daily yesterday he had seriously contemplated retiring from the state's premier league competition before agreeing to another season.

Joyce underwent back surgery 10 years ago after being diagnosed with scoliosis, curvature of the spine, and was initially told he would never play football again.

His determination to defy the odds was rewarded when the Sea Eagles claimed a historic premiership in their debut year with a grand final victory over the Cairns-based Northern Pride.

And Joyce insists there's no reason why they can't repeat the dose in 2010.

"It would be huge (to win back-to-back premierships) but in saying that I think it will be achievable," he said.

"The majority of guys that aren't with Manly are looking to stay, hopefully, and if we can keep that core group around there's no reason why we can't step up again. …
