ROUND two of the new Gympie cricket season commences today, and for A-grade sides Valleys and Wests, it's a chance to continue winning momentum.

Both sides claimed victories last weekend at Albert Park over Harlequins and Colts, respectively.

Dual defending premiers, Valleys, barely skipped a beat in dismantling Harlequins.

They laid down the foundations for the win in the opening weekend of play with a foreboding 359 before declaring.

Harlequins was then sent in to bat and resumed its innings the week after, but found Valleys' score too difficult to reach with 277 at the close of play.

Meanwhile, Wests were stunning in their own right to collect a victory over Colts.

Wests opened its account in blazing fashion with 287 in the first innings, and backed this up with the ball to dismiss Colts for 166.

They then returned to the crease with a second innings, adding an additional 70 to add insult to injury.

All four sides produced form usually not seen so early in the season, drawing praise from Gympie Cricket Association president Bob Blackburn. …
