DURHAM City's losing start to their first season in the UniBond Premier Division stretched to 12 games last night following a narrow 2-1 defeat at home to Ossett Town.

City's young guns, though, put on a sparkling first-half display and ran their more experienced Yorkshire visitors all the way before just pulling up short.

It was welcome light at the end of a long tunnel for manager Lee Collings, who will now hope to go one better against Worksop Town at the Esh Stadium on Saturday.

Collings said: "In the first half it was like watching the old Durham City, and I cannot pay the young lads a bigger compliment than that.

"We passed the ball very well, hit the woodwork and Andrew Stephenson, who was outstanding again, missed a one-onone with the keeper. "Ossett rarely troubled us, but scored a late goal to gain an undeserved halftime lead.

"They must have had a rollicking during the interval as they were much better early in the second half. …
