Elite Rider Saddles Up to Judge Horse Event

WORLD-class eventing competitor Christopher Burton will find himself wearing a different competition hat this weekend when he arrives in Toowoomba to judge the young horse competition at the 2009 One Day Event.

The Young Event Horse of the Year will run in conjunction with the Eventing Queensland State Championships-Toowoomba ODE hosted at Toowoomba Showgrounds on Saturday and Sunday by Toowoomba & District Showjumping Club.

Burton is currently one of Australia's highest achieving event riders.

In 2007 and 2008 he was New South Wales Event Rider of the Year and last year he was named as a reserve for Australia's Beijing Olympic eventing team.

Burton is based at Windsor west of Sydney and today he will be in Toowoomba participating in coaching clinics.

He is then looking forward to his weekend duties on the other side of the competition fence.

"My mum and dad live at Brymaroo so it will be good having the opportunity to spend a weekend in Toowoomba," Burton said this week. …
