Time for Repairs as Reef, Islands Closed for Fishing; Daytrippers and Campers Asked to Stay Away for Annual Seabird Migration

TOMORROW at midnight marks the first of two reef fin fish closures which lasts until midnight on Monday, October 19.

During this time the reef isn't out of bounds but it is if you want to go fishing, and I have been advised that the likes of Masthead Island and Erskine Island are out of bounds from October 15 for six months. This is for the annual migration of the seabirds, so day trippers and campers are asked to stay off the Islands. Lady Musgrave and North West Islands will remain open till late January.

Many of the species of fish which are often caught out at the reef can also be caught inshore so it'll pay you to check what species you are allowed to keep during this period.

This could be a good time to do some work on that boat or maybe service your reels and renew some of that tackle.

The Gladstone Marine Centre 100 is on again travelling from the Marina to Seahill and back on November 8.

This predicted log event is a great family outing and for those who like to do their sums and predict exactly when they will arrive at various points along the way, this is a fantastic opportunity to brush up on those skills plus familiarise yourself with The Narrows and its channels.

Entries are available from the Marine Centre or VMR beside the yachties boat ramp.

These local businesses are wanting to do business with you, and are offering very good deals, so please support them.
