WEST NASSAU 44, YULEE 28; Warriors Remain Unbeaten West Nassau Shows a Resilient Running Game in Victory at Yulee

Looking to remain in the hunt for a playoff spot, undefeated West Nassau dispatched Yulee 44-28 Friday night off the power of three strong backs.

Garrett Hammett led the Warriors (5-0, 3-0 in District 3-2B) with 195 yards on 22 carries including a 77-yard touchdown in the first quarter, but Earl Youman and Seth Velez also pulled their weight, rushing for another 151 yards and five touchdowns. Velez handled the short-yardage situations, scoring three times on 1-yard rushes.

The Warriors' ability to spread the ball around effectively kept Yulee (3-2, 0-2) on their heels most of the night.

"They stacked their defense to stop Garrett," said West Nassau head coach George Nelson. "So we did go with some counters and I'm real pleased with all our backs; they ran well today."

Yulee's Derrick Henry also got his fair share of carries, rushing 22 times for 157 yards, but quarterback Connor Petty and a nice selection of capable wide receivers kept the Hornets in contention for most of the game. …
